The X Factor 5 - Best of British Week

Daniel is finally caught in the bottom two

Daniel's luck finally ran out and the viewers voted him into the bottom two along with Rachel. The judges were not about to lose their chance to send him home and Simon, Louis and Cheryl voted unanimously do do just that.

Diana was back for the Best of British week and despite her laryngitis she still demonstrated that she is the main contender to win the series this year - even though she sounds the same each week. Given her medical problems it was appropriate she chose a Coldplay song.

Rachel was smiling again this week and reprised the song that made such an impression in her first audition. That was definitely her best performance of the series and probably the best of the evening.

Alexandra has a very good voice but she does sing some fairly dreary stuff on The X Factor. Her choice this evening was as dreary as any she has performed.

Simon is hoping that Eoghan will keep getting the Leon votes from young girls using up phone credits they parents bought for them. Leon won last year so assume he will get to the final. Pity about the singing though.

Daniel keeps annoying Louis and the judges on the X Factor just like John Sergeant on Strictly Come Dancing. John kept up the challenge on BBC One by walking off stage before the judges had been given a chance to slag him off. Daniel just stood there and received yet another tirade from Louis, who is responsible for keeping him in for so long.

JLS's Beatle medley was OK but it's time they produced something better and Ruth sang again no better than in previous weeks when she ended in the bottom two.

At the start of the show Dermot O'Leary told the viewers that questions were raised in parliament about Laura's exit last week. Not quite Dermot. The culture secretary, Andy Burnham, was asked about another TV show but as he was a typical MP he didn't answer that question but said how harsh he thought it was that Laura had been sent home from The X Factor.

In the sing-off Rachel said she would be singing One Love by Mary J Blige. Not quite. She sang U2's One.
