The X Factor 5 - The Final! and it's wide open!

The evening starts with all 12 finalists back on stage for Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Then we are straight into Round 1, and the cheese of the Christmas songs.

Eoghan Quigg is first up with I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday. A lavish production, lots of kids dancing on stage and a future target audience for Eoghan clearly in mind. Occasional tuning problems, but Eoghan is at his most confident. The judges as always are impressed ... he's just 16 and a good role model.

JLS follow with Last Christmas. Aston leads the vocals as usual, a beautiful floating opening to the song. Dressed in gleaming white, JLS look every inch the finished boy band, and the judges agree. Louis reckons he is the proudest mentor there tonight.

Alexandra Burke is next with Silent Night. Looking stunning tonight, and with a voice to match. The judges are wowed, Simon gets in another dig about 3 years ago, and Alexandra looks very emotional. The fans back home are going mad.

And onto Round 2, the duets. Eoghan singing Picture Of You. In a tux, with more girls who then disappear as ... Boyzone! ... come on stage as his guests. A nice atmosphere on the stage between them and Eoghan - good choice for the duet.

JLS are next and sing Flying Without Wings. And very good they sound too! Then their guests come on stage - Westlife - and seem to do their best to drown out JLS. Are they afraid of the competition from JLS, or were their mikes turned up too much?

The last of the duets sees Alexandra singing Listen ... and introducing Beyonce. Alex is clearly overcome at singing with Beyonce - but when the two of them, holding hands, start singing together it is quite amazing! What a good match!

The comic relief part way through the show sees some of our favourite (and less favourite) auditionees on stage, 'performing' Abba's I Have A Dream. Cringe and pass the sick bucket.

Back to the serious stuff, it's Round 3 and the finalists' opportunity to perform their favourite song from the series again.

Eoghan has chosen We're All In This Together. Voice sounding weaker, or maybe simply drowned out by the backing singers? Lots going on on stage, dancers galore. A great production, and we have to keep reminding ourselves he's only 16 ... don't we Louis!

On to JLS, and a repeat of last week's I'm Already There. Sublime and emotional ... though also a little subdued? Simon reckons it'll be close tonight, Louis makes a passionate plea for viewers at home to vote for JLS - four normal guys living out their dream.

Alexandra brings the first of tonight's programmes to a conclusion with You Are So Beautiful. A totally professional performance and in a different league, she has grown throughout this series and tonight looks every inch the future superstar. Phenomenal!

The winner will be revealed later tonight in the Results show. Come and discuss the show in our The X Factor forum!
