X Factor Alexandra is the first British female solo artist with a million selling single

Alexandra Burke has become the first British female solo artist to sell a million copies of a single. Her cover of Hallelujah has now been the number one single in the UK for the past three weeks.

The track is now the biggest-selling single for a UK female solo artist. Leona Lewis's debut single, A Moment Like This, sold about 850,000 copies.

Alexandra is one of only 10 artists who have sold over a million copies this decade but she is still about 100,000 sales short of Kylie Minogue's 2001 hit Can't Get You Out of My Head.

Will Young, who won the first Pop Idol, sold more than 1.1 million copies of Anything Is Possible/Evergreen in its first week, making it the fastest-selling UK single in history.
