The X Factor 2 - Auditions - 2

The Conway Sisters

Sisters Sharon, Sinead, Marie and Laura sang Kylie Minogue's In Your Eyes.

Louis thought there was raw talent there although they needed grooming and styling.

"Give us a chance, Lou!" asked Marie, with a gleam in her eyes that could only come from Ireland.

"I will," Louis replied. They were through to the next round.

Phillip

21-year-old Phillip sang the country song Your Cheating Heart.

Simon said his performance was great. Louis added: "I agree with Simon. I'm pleasantly surprised."

Sharon voted no but was outvoted. Phillip was through to boot camp.

Aron

29-year-old taxi driver Aron won a place in boot camp. But if he gets through to the live showdowns his torn jeans will be in a bin and his long lanky fair hair will have ended up on the barber's floor.

The Polkadots

The three Geordies in white polkadots didn't quite have the dance routine synchronized.

"Oh dear, oh dear!" intoned Simon.

Sharon told Jessica Polkadot she should leave the other two Polkadots and go solo.

Louis was aghast. "How could you break up a group like this? I think you're pretty good - and different!" he told them.

Simon must have been thinking about the dance routine when he told them they didn't work well as a trio - but he added his vote to the one from Louis. The Polkadots were invited to boot camp.

Brenda

Patrick had taken his wife, Brenda, to Belfast for a surprise weekend together - and then sent her in for an X Factor audition.

Brenda sang River Deep, Mountain high for the judges. After getting a yes vote from Sharon and Simon she rushed up to the judges' desk and dive-bombed Simon, giving him a kiss in return for his vote.

Penélope Gómez

"Mi nombre es Penélope. Tengo el x factor!"

Penélope from Barcelona came bouncing on with Penélope Cruz eyes and Penélope Cruz charm. But Sharon and Louis couldn't stop laughing when she started singing Over The Rainbow.

"You very bad!" Penélope admonished them.

"Do you have a second song?" Louis asked.

"Yes - but you're going to laugh at me," replied Penélope before trying to sing Fields of Gold without causing the judges to titter again. Despite her ordeal, Penélope was through to boot camp.

Tony

Tony, a 46-year-old priest, sang Time To Say Goodbye in English and Italian.

"I think you could convert me," Sharon told him. With a yes vote from Louis as well he was through to boot camp.

"Bless you. Thank you very much," Tony said.

Laurie

43-year-old dinner lady, Laurie, was prevented by arthritis when she was younger from following up her show business dream.

She sang Unbreak My Heart for the judges and won a place at boot camp.

Jordan

16-year-old Jordan sang There Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers.

"I think you're lovely," Sharon told him. "Do you have a girlfriend?"

Yes. He has a girlfriend - and a place in boot camp.

Journey South

Andy and Carl sang U2's But I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

Simon told Carl: "I really like your voice. You are a much stronger singer." All the judges thought they were too intense and should lighten up a bit but they were through to boot camp.
