William and Kate spotted after long absence from public eye

After an unusual length of time out of the media spotlight Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted leaving Tom's Kitchen restaurant in London on Saturday. The couple was obviously uncomfortable with the attention as they shielded their faces from photographers. It was the first sighting of the couple since early January when they were photographed returning from a holiday in Scotland.

The media have been unusually silent about William and Kate's relationship as of late. Where once the press marched them out as the soon-to-be-engaged couple on every available occasion this past Valentines Day went by without a peep on their relationship. Media attention has also turned away from Kate since leaving London to work for her parents mail order company. Much of this may be due to William's new training with the RAF. With complaints coming in that his military career is keeping him from his royal duties it seems likely that he wouldn't have as much time for his personal life either.

Unsurprisingly, the couple's long absence from the public eye has caused speculation that the two may have split once again. However, social commentator Dean Piper recently assured us that they are still together and claimed his sources had told him the couple spent a weekend with friends in February.

Perhaps this latest sighting of William and Kate will put the spurs back on the royal engagement gossip?
