Quick, someone call the press!! The Daily Mail has invented a time machine!! At least, that's what it seemed like this morning when I read an article gushing about a 2 day charity stint Prince William completed... in 2006.
Photos of William working in a Centrepoint kitchen were released this week, making me wonder if the Daily Mail is really so desperate for news that they've resorted to printing stories that are 3 years old... or was there some sort of agreement made with Prince William's PR people in exchange for some good press? With all the "idle William" stories that have hit the press over the past month or two, I can certainly understand the need to drum up some support. But this is hardly the way to do it!
Perhaps Prince William's PR people had nothing at all to do with this huge gaffe. William recently made an emotional speech about his mother after becoming Royal Patron of the Child Bereavement Charity. Considering Diana was once patron of Centrepoint as well, it makes sense that the press may want to bring up this old event.
Unfortunately, it speaks to a larger issue at hand. Since they had to dip back 3 years to find any involvement with the charity on William's part, one has to wonder exactly how committed is he, really? While the story is old, the photos are new - released because William recently hosted a dinner for some of those involved with Centrepoint. So William went from working in the kitchen in 2006, to reaping the benefits of someone else's cooking in 2009- perhaps this is just how these royal patronages work? Roll up one's sleeves and muck in once or twice per decade, and spend the rest of the time hosting dinner parties for the people who do the real work? I suppose I'm being a bit too hard on the lad - I mean, honestly ... making small talk with strangers is T-O-U-G-H, tough!
Agree or disagree with my opinion? Let me know.
