Space Cadets: Training

Weightlessness

Mission Commander James Campbell: "One thing that may surprise you - it may even disappoint you - but it makes our life easier - is that you are unlikely to experience weightlessness.

"On this mission you will be skirting the earth's atmosphere, high enough to reach orbit, but still within the reach of earth's gravitational pull.

"Full training and acclimatization to the zero-gravity environment takes 12 months - which we haven't got."

Astronots

Mission Commander James Campbell: "In just under three weeks, some, possibly even all of you will be able to officially call yourselves astronauts."

[Space travellers launched from Russia are called cosmonauts.]

London - we have a problem!

"I'm one of the producers from Channel 4.

"I've come to take Steve out."

The planets

Mission Commander James Campbell: "Many very Englishmen jump sideways under new plants."

[Mercury, Venus, Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto]

Charlie: "What about the X at the end?"

James Campbell: "Pluto is about to be declassified as a planet."

The Hazelnut Cluster

"Our galaxy is one of a group of 30 galaxies which are clustered together, which form our local group.

"It's called the Hazelnut Cluster and it's 10 million light years across so it's really big."

[There are 30 galaxies including the Milky Way in the local group of galaxies, which is known as the Local Group and is 10 million light years across. The Hazelnut Cluster is a chocolate.]
