2006: A Year in Review

2006 was a year of milestones for many Royal families throughout the world. While it would take far too much time to re-cap everything that happened in the world of royalty in 2006, lets review some of the major events and rumors that had royal watchers talking.

The King and Queen of Sweden will visit the United States and Canada in October. Their trip will include a visit to the US Capital and the White House on October 23rd and then a four day trip to Canada.

Accompanied by her parents, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria attended the openining of parliament Tuesday.

The 29-year old princess was dressed in classic black for the occasion. Parliament was officially opened by King Carl Gustaf, who warned that action was needed to protect life on earth in the face of climate change.

The Princess traditionally celebrates her birthday in the town of Öland, Sweden with a family lunch at Solliden castle. Well-wishers are invited to gather outside the castle, where she will go to greet them in the afternoon.

Members from every royal house in the world attended the celebrations to mark the Diamond Jubilee of King Rama IX, the King of Thailand.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden have began their five day official State Visit to Turkey.

This is the first ever official visit by the King of Sweden to Turkey, officials from both countries expect this visit to further enhance relations.

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden received minor injuries during a go-kart race in Värmland, Sweden.

King Carl XVI Gustaf will turn 60 on 30 April, in a recent interview the King said: “'The good thing is you don't have to pretend to be a teenager any more. For instance when you are working out, you don't have to rush but can take it a little easy, with some style.''
