It's good to be right! Earlier this month it was announced that amongst New York's 400th Anniversary celebrations The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic will hold a match on Governors Island for the second year running. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Prince Harry's Lesotho based charity Sentebale through the American Friends of Sentebale. This led some (well, me anyway) to speculate that Prince Harry might attend the match. And without wanting to sound too amazed that I was right...HARRY'S GOING TO ATTEND!
Not only will the prince be at the match but his attendance is also being reported as his first official visit to any country which makes me think (and I have been right in the past *ahem*) that he may be making the royal rounds elsewhere in New York City. Although his itinerary has not been confirmed speculation in the Daily Mail says he may pay his respects at Ground Zero to the victims of 9/11 as well as visiting charities in the city.
Although it may be his first royal visit to America it is not his first trip to the United States. As a child his mother took Harry and William on a trip to Disneyland Florida in 1993 as well as a visit to a friend's ranch in Colorado in 1995.
Sentebale's Chairman, Charles J. Denton said, "This iconic event will help raise awareness for our organization - Lesotho faces some enormous problems, and our work there could not be more vital. The numbers of orphans and vulnerable children suffering are staggering, and we are managing to make a real difference to help them. Events like this are crucial to support our work and we look forward to our growing relationship with Veuve Clicquot."
Nacho Figueras, captain of Black Watch, said, "It is an honor to be back on Governors Island playing polo in the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic, and to help raise money for Sentebale. With Governors Island in such close proximity to New York City, it's especially exciting this year as New York celebrates its 400th Anniversary. I am thrilled to be part of such a fantastic event."
Said Aisha Thompson, Veuve Clicquot Senior Brand Manager, "This event marks the signature Veuve Clicquot Season summer opening and we look forward to providing spectators with an afternoon of sport and entertainment surrounded by the magnificent Manhattan skyline. This year, we are pleased to be supporting an incredible and inspirational charity, American Friends of Sentebale."
