Prince Harry in New York

Prince Harry wrapped up his visit to New York yesterday with a polo match on Governors Island, situated just south of Manhattan and with a magnificent view of the New York skyline.

The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic was a fund-raising event for American Friends of Sentebale, the US branch of Prince Harry's charity which supports orphans and children living in poverty in Lesotho. Guests included Kate Hudson, Chloe Sevigny, Kanye West, LL Cool J and Madonna and Jesus Luz.

Earlier in the day Harry had visited a school in Harlem. Harry sat in on cookery and maths classes and watched children playing indoor hockey and American football in the gymnasium.

Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho were invited to join a balloon-bursting contest as part of an unusual obstacle course.

On Friday, Prince Harry visited the site of the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, bowing his head in prayer at Ground Zero and placing a wreath before the destroyed World Trade Center.

A handwritten note on the wreath read: "In respectful memory of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and in admiration of the courage shown by the people of this great city on that day."

It was signed, "Harry".
