Nadine Coyle was confirmed as a member of Girls Aloud in Popstars: The Rivals on 30th November 2002.
Earlier in November The Sun newspaper had reported that Nadine Coyle came close to a breakdown.
On the TV show on 16th November she sang When I Fall in Love.
Davina asked her: "Are you nervous? Why are you nervous?"
Nadine replied: "I don't know. I'm really really really nervous."
Davina said: "You're not normally nervous, are you?"
Nadine admitted that she had almost burst out crying.
Then all the judges praised her and tears then came to her eyes.
The Sun said that Nadine left the Popstars house for two days, missing the James Bond photoshoot with the others. She stayed with her boyfriend, Charlton Athletic footballer Neil McCafferty, and then returned for the show.
A Popstars insider said: "Nadine’s been very run down. She had throat and stomach problems and was very nervy anyway. The doctor signed her off due to stress and she went to stay with Neil, who calmed her down."
