Javine just missed out on a place in Girls Aloud when she competed in Popstars: The Rivals - but on 5th March 2005 the British public voted for her to sing for her country in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Javine had released some singles and a solo album but had recently been dropped by her record label.
Javine beat Andy Scott Lee in the Making Your Mind Up show screened on BBC One. Andy was one of the best singers in the 2003 Pop Idol series.
The Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Kiev, Ukraine, on 21st May.
Javine's debut single Real Things entered the Official UK Top 40 at number four on 13th July 2003. Her follow-up, Surrender (Your Love) entered at number 15 on 16th November.
Best of my Love was number 18 on 20th June 2004.
When Javine was voted off Popstars: The Rivals she said: "I’ll rise above it all to have a great solo career. I have always given everything 250 per cent and I won’t stop now. Mark my words." Javine Hylton was voted out of Popstars: The Rivals on 30th November. She said: "I’ll rise above it all to have a great solo career. I have always given everything 250 per cent and I won’t stop now. Mark my words."
The Sun reported that Javine Hylton was about to sign a three-album contract with Innocent Records worth £1 million. An executive at the record label said: “The deal will be done subject to a few final points being agreed."
Innocent Records had already signed Blue, Atomic Kitten and Billie Piper.
Earlier, The Sun newspaper reported that Javine had said: "Everyone wants to sign me. I’ve already been approached by five labels. I really want to write my own songs. I would love to do some pop meets R&B-type tunes. I’ll rise above it all to have a great solo career. I have always given everything 250 per cent and I won’t stop now. Mark my words."
After the show in which Javine was excluded from Girls Aloud, bookies said the band’s chances of grabbing the Christmas number one had been reduced. Ladbrokes dropped the band’s odds from 4-1 to 5-1 after bets dried up. One True Voice were 4-7 favourites. Did you vote for Girls Aloud at 5-1?
The Sun newspaper also reported that Javine spent the Saturday night after the final show snogging Anton - and blew her top when she spotted him being pawed by groupies.
She said: “Find yourself another f***ing girlfriend. You can’t keep your eyes off any girl.”
