Kurt Nilsen was voted World Idol with a massive 106 points of a maximum possible 112 points.

World Idol is Prat Idol says Will Young

UK contestant, Will Young, says he's bemused by the whole concept of World Idol and has dubbed it Prat Idol. But he still said he would try his best to win.

Surreal conversations

Peter Evrard won the Belgian Idool competition - which was so popular the contestants had a police escort on occasions.

In World Idol, Peter sang the Nirvana hit Lithium.

Beautiful Day

Kurt Nilsen, a plumber and father of two, went along to the Norwegian Idol auditions.

"Your voice is terrific but your not a pop idol," one of the judges told him.

South African Heinz Winckler, sang the Aerosmith hit, I Don't Want To Miss a Thing on World Idol.

The Polish judge, Kuba Wojewodzski, said: "The only thing that is keeping me here is gravitational force, the market value of the pound and the fact that my plane leaves tomorrow. It's absolutley not my cup of tea. Thank you!"

Throughout the series Diana sang classical Arabic songs. The week before the final the last male in the competition, a Lebanese hearthrob, was voted out of the show - and there was mayhem in the studio as people surged onto the stage.

The Polish argument

Alicja Janosz is now know as Alex and she wears one boot up to her knees and has her trouser leg covering the other boot. For World Idol, she sang I Don't Know How To Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Alexander Klaws and Maniac

Before the show, Alexander Klaws, representing Germany, said: "Ich will der Welt zeigen, was ich drauf habe und dass ich singen kann."

Alexander sang - and danced - Maniac in World Idol.
