BBC under pressure to reduce extravagant salaries

The BBC is under political pressure as the scale of its largesse became clear when it published salaries of its highest paid suits.

A new Conservative government could not possibly contemplate the drastic action necessary to reduce the costs of the public sector without making an example of the BBC.

The BBC’s 50 highest-paid executives earned up to £13.6 million last year, with well over half paid considerably more than the prime minister.

Someone called Richard Klein runs BBC Four which is watched by 0.5% of the viewing public. He is paid about £200,000. The channel screens a dreary set of nostalgia programmes for the elderly and doesn't manage to get on air until 7pm.

Lavish expense claims have also been released. Jenny Abramsky, who was head of audio and music and who was paid £327,000, spent £1,137 on a dinner with Terry Terry Wogan.
