State Opening of Parliament: November 2007The State Opening of Parliament for the 2007-08 Session will take place on Tuesday 06 November 2007. Her Majesty the Queen will be accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen's Speech is delivered by Her Majesty the Queen in the presence of members of the House of Lords and members of the House Commons from the Throne in the House Lords. Although the speech is delivered by Her Majesty the Queen, the content of the speech is entirely written by the government of the day to outline the policy for the coming session of Parliament. Her Majesty the Queen has opened every session of Parliament except in 1959 and 1963, when she was expecting Prince Andrew and Prince Edward respectively. The State Opening of Parliament will be broadcast Live on BBC1, BBC Parliament and briefly on BBC News 24 from 10:30am GMT – online viewers may also watch proceedings at the Palace of Westminster on the BBC News web site. |
