William just wants to be friends (with benefits)

Friends of Prince William are saying he has no intention of getting back together with Kate Middleton although the two remain friends. Best friends with benefits by the sound of it!

When William and Kate were spotted at an Army party kissing and holding hands before finally sneaking off to William's room the watching world (but first the Internet Forum, I just have to point out) stared listening--once again--for wedding bells . . . or banging their heads against their keyboards.

And so it all started again. Royal journalists and watchers said William would be mad if he let her go this time or mad if he took her back. William couldn't live without Kate, Kate wasn't sure if she wanted him back, bets on an engagement were reopened, Woolworths reordered their commemorative mugs, Robert Jobson started writing a 3rd book . . . okay, I'm making the last two up. But, hang on a moment everyone. Not only has this sort of speculation been a factor in the breakup, friends of the Prince are saying it was just a fling and nothing to get fussed about.

A friend of William has said, "William was expected to bring a guest and Kate was the natural choice. If he'd invited a society girl it would have sent out the wrong signals. His position with Kate is clear. He wants to remain good friends, that's all."

An ex-girlfriend the "natural choice"? A new girlfriend a "wrong signal"? Hmmm. Their position is as clear as mud. Unless it's true. In which case Kate might want to remove herself from the position unless she's as happy with it as William is.
