Was Prince William being forced into marriage?

New reports are surfacing alleging that royal courtiers were planning to announce an engagement between Prince William and Kate Middleton, without the couples consent.

According to the UK's Grazia magazine, royal insiders were already planning a Wills/Kate wedding as though it was a "done deal". A source told Grazia: 'It was felt in royal circles that the time had come for the couple to get engaged and that it should be announced immediately after the Diana Memorial Concert in July, so the family could capitalise on the goodwill.'

Speculation abounds that royal insiders were pressuring Wills to propose to Kate, who allegedly told friends earlier this year that she expected an announcement to be made in February.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was said to be frustrated with the direction that Wills and Kate's relationship was heading. The 82-year-old monarch reportedly told Prince William that he either commit to Middleton or end it.

The pressure was so great on William, that sources say he decided there was no other option but to end his 3 year relationship with Kate. Reports say that Wills was shocked over the constant speculation that he was to marry Kate and was aghast over the manufacturing of engagement souvenirs.

With allegations being made by Kate's friends that Wills strung Middleton along and was nothing more than a cad to her, many royal fans reflect on his comments made in 2004. Whilst in Klosters Wills made it perfectly clear that he had no intention to marry until he was at least 28 or even 30.

Perhaps royal insiders should have taken notice of Prince William years ago?
