These past few weeks Prince William been criticised in the media for not only ending a relationship but also of drunken loutish behaviour. Harry meanwhile, has been accused of harming the image of the monarchy with his late night pub crawls. A new poll reveals that far from agreeing with media reports, the public are very supportive of their princes.
The Sunday Mirror commissioned a poll with ICM to find out whether Wills and Harry have let their subjects down and that "there is widespread support for them, in sharp contrast to the months after the death of Princess Diana a decade ago" as well as "Most people feel that we now have a forward-looking, modern monarchy."
A majority of those polled also supported Prince William's decision to split with Kate Middleton. They also agreed with Prince Harry being allowed to fight in Iraq.
The poll results are as follows:
48% thought Kate Middleton would have made a good Queen; 43% didn't know.
52% felt that Kate Middleton's background had nothing to do with her split from Wills; 26% thought it did.
88% thought that Prince William should be able to marry whomever he liked; 6% felt he should marry someone from the aristocracy .
60% felt Prince Harry should go to Iraq like any other soldier; 36% thought he should not.
69% thought that Princes William and Harry's nightclub antics makes no difference to their images; 23% felt it was damaging their images.
63% felt that Britain would be worse off without the Royal Family; 27% felt it would be better off.
