Aoife Mulholland stars as Maria in The Sound of MusicI recently saw Aoife Mulholland triumph in her first night as Maria in the Sound of Music. Aoife finished fourth in the popular BBC show ‘How do you solve a problem like Maria?’ which saw Connie Fisher win the title role. Due to medical advice Connie is now doing 6 shows a week and Aoife will do Monday evenings and Wednesday matinees until October. The role of Maria will be a huge change from Aoife's most recent starring role as Roxie in Chicago! Aoife was absolutely amazing! She has a clear, sweet, strong, beautiful voice that I really loved. Her acting was brilliant and her facial expressions tell a whole story on their own throughout the show. The moment she falls in love with the captain was very moving. She had the audience firmly on her side, and we certainly went on her journey with her through the course of the show. She interacted very well with the children and the love between them felt real. Her chemistry with Alexander Hansen (the Captain) was certainly there, at times it looked like she loved him so much it was both joyous and almost painful for her. She has a fantastic presence on the stage, a real joy to watch; even the children couldn’t really drag my eyes away from Aoife! Aoife got a well-deserved standing ovation from the whole audience at the end and looked happy with it too! Connie is an excellent Maria but so is Aoife, anyone seeing Aoife instead of Connie shouldn’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to see Aoife again to see her grow into the role, get even better and make it her own, even if it is only two shows a week. Well done Aoife, you did a really brilliant job! The problem of Maria has been solved not once..but twice! |
