Seasoned royal correspondent James Whitaker has appeared on ITV's This Morning show and defended Kate Middleton's lack of work.
The veteran journalist said that he felt there wasn't any need for Kate to work. He told hosts Fern Britton and Philip Schofield "Maybe she's just standing by to see what's going to happen in her relationship with William?" when asked about the current criticism of her lack of work.
In the past few days, The Internet Forum's Royal Forum has sparked debate in the UK media about Kate's lack of work since finishing university 16 months ago. The Sunday Express reported the often heated debate in the forum's "The Great Kate Job Debate" thread and even went so far as to quote members posts.
Going against the growing tide of frustration, Mr Whitaker said that Kate could very well do some charity work if she married Wills. To most reasonable thinking "royalists" this seems a little bizarre. Why should Kate wait to work? Heaven knows she hasn't got a royal ring on her finger...yet!
