Queen Elizabeth to open memorial gardens in honour of the Queen Mother

HM the Queen is set to open a memorial gardens in honour of her mother, the Queen Mum.

The memorial garden is to be located within the Royal Botanic Gardens and is costing approximately £600,000.

Both the Queen and Prince Charles were consulted in the design and both were directly involved in the appeal for donations to fund the garden.

The designer of the garden said "The garden is a living memorial, a mix between the formality of the maze and the more informal planting around it. It's been a very good project to work on. Now the final stones are being laid and the grotto is being completed."

The garden is expected to contain a maze, a grotto and a memorial pavilion as well as be reminiscent of the Queen Mother’s childhood home in Angus, Scotland.

HM the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will open the garden on July 7.
