Kate Middleton will be assigned bodyguards. This is a clear sign that the engagement of Kate and Prince William is likely to be announced soon.

Until now, Kate, who celebrates her 26th birthday today, only had round-the-clock protection when she was with William. But she will soon be guarded by London police 24 hours a day in her own right.

Chief Inspector John Hourihan will have responsibility for a team of four bodyguard officers for both William and Kate.

Informed sources told the London Evening Standard that the preparations now being made for Kate Middleton are similar to those just before Prince Charles announced his engagement to Lady Diana Spencer.
