Princess Mary of Denmark blows her budgetPrincess Mary of Denmark has received widespread criticism in Denmark for blowing her budget. Some media outlets are dubbing her “The Nordic Imelda Marcos” for her lavish lifestyle. In an audit of their 2005 expenses, it was revealed that Crown Prince Frederick and Princess Mary spend in excess of $2,500 a day on clothes, shoes and furniture. The entire private expenditure for the year was a whopping $933,000, $212,000 of which went towards entertainment and parties for the couple. Princess Mary's telephone and postage bills nearly doubled from 2004 to $31,000 for 2005. Mary also spent $68,000 on consultants and insurance. On a whole, the Danish royal couple spent $167,000 over their annual budget of $3.4 million. One Danish commentator reportedly stated that once Princess Mary flashed her credit card it started "glowing pretty quickly".
