Dancing on Ice 2008 - Broadway is Aggie Mackenzie's Swan Song

In the fourth week of Dancing on Ice the skate off was between Aggie Mackenzie and her partner Sergei Malyshev, and Steve Backley and his partner Susie Lipanova. The skaters had performed to different Broadway themes and top of the leaderboard were Chris Fountain and his delightful partner Frankie Poultney who were outstanding in their Rocky Horror routine.

It was always going to be goodbye to Aggie once she was in the skate off and her low marks this evening from the judges meant that even with an outstanding viewers' phone vote for her. It was always going to be close.

Finally she ran out of chances, votes and points and faced Steve Backley attempting a pedestrian routine to “Hello Dolly” whilst Aggie did her best to stay upright on the ice whilst performing to “I feel Pretty” In fairness to her, she has given 200% to try and learn new steps, skating techniques and routines for several months, and shown a lot of grit and determination in doing so. The oldest celebrity to make it into week 4 of the competition, she has done herself proud and battled on despite injuries and unkind, often unnecessary potshot remarks from one judge, Jason Gardiner,in particular.

Steve Backley’s heart clearly wasn’t in the routine this evening; he lacked the punch and drive all too evident in last week’s skate off. It must be getting close to closing time for him to also hang up his skates.
