Hayley Tamaddon once again topped the leader board in last night's show despite a performance in which her professional partner Dan managed to drop her onto the ice. The fact that Hayley followed this calamity by undertaking the terrifying headbanger routine was remarkable and showed real courage by the former Emmerdale actress. Personally I think the headbanger routine is a ridiculously dangerous manoeuvre which makes for uneasy viewing, but no doubt we will be treated to several more displays of this before the end of the series.
Hayley's main adversary, Danniella Westbook, was second with 20 points this week with a dramatic Argentine tango routine. Danniella continues to improve each week and I think is a real contender. For some inexplicable reason Gary Lucy had spent the week learning how to perform a drag role in a London theatre which was apparently designed to boost his confidence and add performance skills to his skating. He and partner Maria skated to the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations" and were rewarded by being voted into third place on the leaderboard.
All the other couples, with the exception of Dr Hilary and Alexandra, seemed to achieve very similar scores, with some bizarre marking once again by Nicky Slater. I found a lot of last night's routines very forgettable and even my favourite, Mikey Graham, failed to deliver last night and stumbled once or twice. Poor Dr Hilary seems to skate at roughly half the speed of everyone else but his GMTV fanbase won't let him go just yet.
The skate-off was between Kieron & Brianne and Heather & Matt. It was obvious even to Heather that Kieron was the better skater and she even remarked as much to Phillip Schofield before taking to the ice for the second time. Kieron is probably in the top four in the competition and shouldn't really have ended up in this position but with four out of five judges saving him, he will go on to skate another week.
