Since his arrival in the jungle and the excitement of competing against Joe Swash in the first head-to-head trial of the series - which he lost amidst much squealing – Simon Webbe does not appear to have said or done anything of note at all. In fact, sometimes I have to keep reminding myself who the tenth celebrity is, so quiet is his presence.
It may not all be down to the editing either. Simon said in a pre-jungle interview: “I don’t really care how people find me ... I study human beings; that’s my job, that’s why I write songs. So for me I’m just an observer. I’ve been an observer for a long time and I’ll make my mind up once I get there.” So we should probably assume that he is still busy “observing” then.
And speaking of his fears, Simon says: “Anything that crawls, anything that runs on the floor, anything that slithers, anything that can fall on me and get into little nooks and crannies, I’m afraid of everything. So I don’t know why I’m going to the jungle. I don’t like heights, I don’t like water – I don’t swim, I don’t even swim in the swimming pool, I’m not a very strong swimmer.”
Why on earth do these people sign up for a show like this if that’s how they feel?!!! Still, it may of course all be a big cover-up and within Simon there may be a very gregarious, macho, potential king of the jungle, you never know!
