Why would a 71-year-old American who has never ever seen I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! agree to spend three weeks in the jungle with a bunch of strangers? George Takei (best known as Star Trek's Mr Sulu) says "I like challenges. I am willing to boldly go. I think it is going to be good fun".
So far the jungle experience does seem to be living up to his expectations - he is never seen without a broad smile on his face, whether leading his group in a sing-song or slapping soothing cream onto Joe Swash's nether regions.
Of course up to now George has had it relatively easy as a member of Home Camp with decent beds to sleep in and plenty to eat. He did get a telling-off for following in Carol Thatcher's footsteps and having a wee within the camp boundaries - a sure-fire way to attract rats as they love the smell of human urine (strange creatures!)
Will he still be smiling as conditions get tougher? We'll just have to keep watching.
