Britain's Got Talent - 12th April 2008

The show that brought us Paul Potts is now back on our television screens with the audition stages.

Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden were also back to judge who they thought had talent good enough to be put through to the live shows in two months time.

Ant and Dec also returned to host the show.

Instead of being on every day like it was last year it is now just on on a Saturday night so the audition stages will go on for nearly two months. Heaven help us is all I can say after some of the 'talent' that was on offer last night!!

It wasn't all bad though and a few acts were really good. Scala proved to be a favourite with the audience and judges alike and 13 year old Andrew Johnston sang an amazing version of Pie Jesu. Scala are rumoured to have been invited on the show to audition after appearing at The X Factor wrap party last year so have a firm standing in the live shows before they even start. That said, anyone can audition and the public will have their say as to who will win anyway.

We also were treated to animals performing, people thinking they could sing and also a grandma who liked to lie on a bed of nails for want of something better to do.

Singer and comedian Craig Harper was also put through to the next round but the Sunday papers ran a story about him being racist and offensive in a show he did a while ago so who knows if we will see him again?

Kate and her dancing dog Gin went down a storm, dancing to a James Bond theme tune. People really do have a soft spot for animals so maybe a non-human could win the show this time round. Stranger things have happened!

Donald Bell-Gam was apparently on the show to 'entertain himself' and sang a dreadful version of Leona Lewis's Bleeding Love. Luckily for us he didn't manage to sing very much of it and was quickly buzzed off. Oh yes, there is a God!!

From the deluded to the delightful, the show made great TV and was, at last, something decent to watch on a Saturday night.
