Apprentice winner Tim at AmstradTim in the firing lineJust before the launch of the second series of The Apprentice, BBC Two brought us up-to-date with Tim Campbell's progress at Amstrad. Sir Alan Sugar summoned Tim to his office when he reported for duty in Brentwood and told him he had the job of launching an anti-wrinkle device which would be sold over the internet. Sir Alan told Tim he was in charge of the Health and Beauty Division developing and marketing the device but he wouldn't have any staff. We then saw Tim update the failed old product, put together a marketing campaign featuring model Nell McAndrew and launch the website to sell the device - available today for £129. At various moments Sir Alan told Tim he was doing things all wrong including the design of new website Tim had just presented to him. "It's not telling me anything," barked Sir Alan. "If this thing is not sorted out in two weeks - right - you are bang in trouble!" But Tim did appear to have done a reasonable job with a difficult project in just a few months. He managed to over a thousand devices in the first month although Sir Alan was looking for significantly greater sales. Tim now has the job of launching the product in several other European countries - where no one will have heard of him or his success in The Apprentice. |
